Deep feelings Pt 3
By Jonathan Clingerman
3:33—His phone rings. As he answered, he felt a chill go down his spine, but felt better hearing the girl’s voice.
“Hey, sorry for the wait,” she said. “I'm walking towards you. I asked about the window to the teacher. She never gave me a response”
“How does the classroom look inside,” he asked.
“Like high schoolers lived in their,” she said with a small laugh. “Oh! I see you in front of me.”
She said his name before hanging up. When she reached him, he was on his phone calling Corey.
“Hey Corey. were heading your way right now…be there in 10 minutes or so...yeah I'm getting your super Saiyan tea drink...I know my bad. Okay yeah. Bye...”
“Hey,” she said as he got off his phone. “How long do you hang out together usually?”
“With Corey? umm probably ‘til like 8:30 or so. If you have to leave before then I'll walk you home.”
“I don't mind,” she said. “Well it's not that far I think, from where you live.”
He stopped, feeling embarrassed, but a little weird that she knew where he lived.
“Umm... Oh sorry for that,” she said. “I was walking a few minutes earlier when I saw you leave your house. I was too shy and felt weird, like if I said something as you were leaving.”
“Oh,” he said, “It's cool. I would not have minded, to be honest. But that's pretty cool I guess.”
As they continue to walk to Corey's house, he kept trying to remember if he’d seen her walking towards him when he left to school that morning. They reached Corey's house and walked in.
“Wow,” she said. “Cool comic books.
“It’s a collection of First issues,” Corey said. “All DC characters too. My dad works there time to time. Pretty cool I guess. Hey…let’s play some cod bro,” Corey said, walking towards his room.
A few hours passed, and suddenly it was 8:00.
“That's an awesome Easter egg,” the girl said to Corey.
“Thanks,” he said.
“It's kinda late out,” she said, laughing.
Her phone started to ring.
“Yes mom,” she answered. “Yeah...okay…sorry mom. I'll do that when I get home. Thanks for the call too.”
She hung up.
“Hey. I gotta get home right now,” she said, adding his name in a voice he could describe as joyful.
“Sho’,” he said, making eye contact with her once again for a split second.
“Umm, hey Corey, I gotta go too,” he said.
Corey just put his hand up, as they did the fastest ‘see you later’ handshake right before her eyes.
“Wow,” she said, almost laughing again outside Corey's house. Walking towards their houses, they talked about their parents and stuff they favored when growing up. When they made it to her house, he got to meet her mother, and chat about the city with her as well. Before leaving, the girl hugged him and thanked him for walking her home and keeping her safe.
They said goodbyes, and he started his way back home. When he entered, his mom was finished with dinner.
“Hey son,” she said handing him a plate of food.
“Hey mom,” he said before he finished half the plate of food in matter of seconds.
“I was out with a friend shopping for groceries and asked her that question you asked earlier,” his mom said.??
“UmMmhumm,” he said, continuing to add more food to his plate while chewing.
“It's a thing to do with sunlight sometimes,” she said, filling her cup with wine. “It’s said that our eyes make a way for us to evolve I guess. Sounds about true to me.”
“It does make sense mom,” he said, finishing his last bite and gulping down his super Saiyan tea. “Hey mom. I met a girl today. We hung out at Corey's house, and I walked her home too.
“That's cool son!”
“Thanks mom!” he said, walking up to his room. “Oh! And she just moved here. She lives a few houses down.”
When he entered, a text came from the girl’s number. The text read ... ‘Hey I'm sorry I'm not alive.’ his heart almost stopped, and he almost fell to the floor. He blinked and read, ‘hey sorry. I'm not allowed to have hung out that long today. Maybe on Friday?”
